Circa 1900, an exceptional and very beautiful set of matching rare antique Jugendstil or Art Nouveau necklace and earrings. The exquisite sculptural design of Gryphon wings set with teeny hand cut Diamonds at the terminals, coveted green Demantoid Garnets to the centres and pear shaped Opal pendants is all in wonderful rich 18ct yellow gold and such an archetypal arrangement of the time.
On a close curb chain, the necklace closes with a bolt ring fastener at 16 inches, and the earrings 4cms from the top of the pierced 'shepherd's crook' earwires. The earrings having a bewitching movement as the head turns due to their charming articulation above the magical turquoisey blue/green hued Opal and then the Diamond set mid section, and this is attended by the scintillation of the sweet little Diamonds... oh, sigh!!
Of Continental manufacture, we have so far been unable to identify the maker, but nonetheless the artist was undoubtedly very skilled as each aspect is hand crafted and assembled with incredible care and great artistry. a set like these is a rarity to come across nowadays.
