Story:
Katsushika Hokusai created the famous Great Wave off Kanagawa as a part of a larger woodblock print series called Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. He began drawing at the age of 6, learning from his father who was a successful mirror-maker. Hokusai’s father helped nurture his son’s talent by setting him up with an apprenticeship at age 14. Although he is know for The Great Wave off Kanagawa, Hokusai had a vast collection of successful art and many different art styles throughout his life. His ever changing art style is something Hokusai is known for. It is said that he had a surname for every style. Not only did Hokusai create beautiful woodblock prints, he also illustrated books and brush paintings. Unlike most famous artists, Hokusai was lucky enough to experience recognition for his art during his life. He lived almost to the age of 90 and never stopped exploring his craft.
